　　Much like the HART Protocol, PROFIBUS is a standard for communication between devices in industrial automation, i.e. for process measuring and control tasks. Starting in 1987, it was mainly developed in Germany. The term is short for “PROcess FIeld BUS.“ The most widely used version is PROFIBUS DP (Decentral Periphery), used to control sensors and actors in manufacturing technology. PROFIBUS PA (Process Automation) is mostly used in process engineering.
